Meet the Team

Arianna Schardt

Research Intern

Arianna has recently completed a Master of Public Health at King’s College London and has joined the CARE-HSC team as a research intern. Within Workstream 1: Formal (Workforce) Carers, she is supporting a review of race equity initiatives and anti-racism interventions across the NHS.

For her master’s dissertation, she examined ethnic variation in antipsychotic prescribing in individuals with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder using South London and Maudsley NHS Trust electronic health record data. Her research interests include ethnic inequalities in treatment and service use, how workplace discrimination shapes staff experiences and care provision and the design and delivery of culturally appropriate care. She is also interested in ethnic variation in the presentation, diagnosis and treatment of borderline personality disorder.

Outside of research, she is also a member of Healthwatch Tower Hamlets’ Advisory Committee and Tower Hamlets’ Mental Health Partnerships Board, shaping local health and social care services and ensuring that patient voices inform decision making and care provision. Previously, she volunteered with Mind Islington as a peer support worker, offering 1-1 support to individuals struggling with a range of mental health difficulties. She is particularly interested in research that translates evidence into meaningful improvements in policy development, service delivery and population health outcomes, especially for underserved communities.

Addressing racial inequities in health and care systems requires a multi-level approach linking lived experience with organisational, policy and structural conditions to examine the mechanisms through which these patterns are produced and sustained.
