Dr Dörte Bemme

Co lead for Co-Creating Concepts of Care and Innovative Methodologies and New Data

Dr Dörte Bemme is a Senior Lecturer in Society & Mental Health at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, King’s College London. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from McGill University and has held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the New School for Social Research, New York.

Within CARE-HSC, Dörte co-leads the Co-Creating Concepts of Care workstream and the Innovative Methodologies and New Data core theme. Her research explores the anthropology and history of psychiatry, the globalization and digitalization of mental health care, and the production of expert knowledge in interdisciplinary collaborations.

Dörte’s multi-sited research in international institutions, virtual and field sites in South Africa and Nepal investigates how mental health is experienced and interpreted across cultural and structural contexts. She is particularly interested in how digital technologies are transforming psychiatry and in developing neuroecosocial concepts and methods to inform equitable and evidence-based care.
