Meet the Team
Iman Shervington, MFA is the Sr. Director of Media and Communications at the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies (IWES), a public health non-profit headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana (US). She is a narrative change specialist that works at the intersection of media, health, justice, and community-engaged research and programming. Iman works in partnership with communities to a) generate new media that centres the voices of those with lived experience; and b) translate health concepts and research for dissemination to broader audiences through creative methodologies such as film, podcasts, and photography. Her work serves as a tool to advance systems-level change by helping audiences understand the complexities of health inequities and connect their personal narratives and experiences to larger, more systemic issues. Her award-winning media projects amplify marginalised voices and connect research with real-world advocacy. As a co-lead for CARE-HSC’s work on “Innovative Methodologies and New Data” and “Policy, Capacity Building and Impact,” Iman will utilize film and storytelling to centre the lived experiences of minoritised carers and challenge the inequities they face, and she will co-design tools to help members of the health and social care workforce drive structural change.
